Kim Thomsen
With over 35 years in the Performing Arts industry in Australia and abroad, Kim Thomsen is a highly respected musician, conductor, educator, and arts leader.
Kim was amongst the first females accepted into the Royal Australian Navy Band and has since built a reputation for musical excellence, integrity, and visionary leadership.
As a conductor, composer, performer and collaborator, Kim has worked with some of Australia’s most loved performers, including John Wood, Silvie Paladino, Frank Woodley and Rhonda Burchmore, and currently serves as personal composer to John Wood. Kim has conducted and performed in every major venue in Australia and has been contracted to conduct numerous ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe.
As a composer, Kim’s creative scoring and catchy melodies have seen her work used in animation, film and screen, and she has composed numerous works for band, orchestra and musical theatre.
An expert in establishing vibrant school performing arts and music programs, particularly instrumental music, Kim is skilled at on-boarding whole school communities through engaging workshops, performances, and collaborative projects. She regularly presents at forums and conferences and leads professional learning for teachers and schools in building sustainable, high-quality music and performing arts departments.
A passionate advocate for music education, she has contributed extensively to curriculum development and assessment design, has held senior roles with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), including Chief Examiner for Music Composition EAT, Panel Chair for written examinations and has been a performance and composition examiner in the past for over 25 years.
Kim’s work as a clinician and conductor has taken her across Australia and overseas, including a recent tour of China performing with some of Broadway and West end’s biggest names such as Kelly Mathieson and Ben Crawford.
Amanda Rowarth
Amanda is a strategic educational leader with a proven record in curriculum governance, leadership development and whole-school impact.
Amanda is a senior educational leader with extensive experience across leading independent schools, combining executive-level educational leadership with international professional expertise in music and performance. Her work is characterised by a strong focus on governance, accountability, capacity building and sustainable program design.
Amanda holds a Bachelor of Education (Music) and a Master of Education (Educational Management) from the University of Melbourne, and a Certificate of School Management and Leadership from Harvard University. These qualifications underpin a leadership practice grounded in evidence-based decision-making, strategic alignment and continuous improvement.
Following professional study and performance experience in England and Italy, Amanda assumed leadership responsibility for the design, implementation and review of comprehensive whole-school music programs across a range of school contexts. Her remit has included curriculum design, assessment frameworks, compliance, risk management and quality assurance, including the delivery and governance of VCE and IB programs. At a system level, Amanda has contributed to sector-wide standards through service on VCE examination writing panels and as a state assessor across Music Performance, Music Style and Composition, Music Inquiry and Music Composition. This work has supported consistency, rigour and integrity in senior secondary assessment.
Amanda is recognised for her leadership in building and maintaining high-performing teams, developing leadership frameworks and strengthening professional culture. She is the founder and leader of the Association of Directors of Music in Independent Schools (ADMIS) Mentoring Program, providing structured leadership development for current and emerging Directors of Music and contributing to sector capability and succession planning.
Over more than 20 years, Amanda has held senior leadership appointments at Lauriston Girls’ School and Haileybury. Since 2018, she has been a member of the Executive Team at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School, where she contributes to whole-school strategy, program oversight, and organisational leadership.
Casey Thomsen
Casey Thomsen is an accomplished conductor, music consultant, and performer with a distinguished career spanning ensemble direction, music education, and artistic development.
As a conductor, Casey directs multiple ensembles at various levels, bringing extensive leadership experience to orchestral and ensemble work. His conducting practice emphasises artistic excellence, collaborative musicianship, and creating meaningful performance experiences for musicians and audiences alike.
In his educational capacity, Casey has developed comprehensive music programs, mentored emerging musicians, and built cultures of musical excellence within institutional settings. He brings both classroom expertise and performance experience to music education, ensuring students develop technical proficiency alongside artistic confidence and musical understanding.
Through his independent consulting and music services practice, Casey works across multiple areas including ensemble direction, private tuition, clinics, and performance consulting. He collaborates with musicians, educational institutions, and performing arts organisations to develop programming, strengthen musical practice, and create quality performance opportunities.
As a performer, Casey maintains an active practice across multiple genres and contexts, performing locally and internationally. His work as conductor, educator, consultant, and performer reflects a sustained commitment to musical excellence and a deep belief in the power of live music to build community, inspire growth, and enrich cultural life.
In addition to his achievements in music, Casey serves as a councillor, where he brings the same professionalism, integrity, and sense of civic responsibility to public service. His work across both fields demonstrates a strong commitment to leadership, community engagement, and the enduring value of music in public life.
